Convert a bank CSV for QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks Online only imports a CSV laid out in three or four particular columns. Drop in your bank’s export and download a file in exactly that layout. It’s free, you don’t need an account, and the file never leaves your browser.

Why QuickBooks rejects bank CSVs
QuickBooks Online’s Upload from file wants either three columns (Date, Description and Amount) or four (Date, Description, Credit and Debit). Most banks export more than that: a running balance, a transaction type, a check number, sometimes a few lines of account details above the table. Any of those can stop the import or put numbers in the wrong place.
The smaller rules catch people out too. QuickBooks asks for every date in one format, for zeros in the amount columns to be left blank, and for the Credit and Debit headings not to include the word “amount”. It also takes at most 1,000 lines and 350 KB per upload.
What this tool does
It reads the CSV, finds the table even when there are account details above it, and works out which columns hold the date, the description and the amounts. You can check and change each choice against a preview before downloading.
The file it writes has only the columns QuickBooks wants, every date in the format you pick, money out as negative amounts (or in the Debit column), and no zero amounts. If there are more than 1,000 transactions, or the file would pass 350 KB, you get several files to upload one after another.
Only have PDF statements?
The statement converter reads the PDF, checks every transaction against the closing balance, and exports CSV or OFX for QuickBooks and Xero.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes, with no account and no limit. The conversion runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to run, and there is nothing to meter.
Is my bank file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by this page in your browser tab and the new file is created there too. Nothing from it is sent to us or to anyone else.
Which date format should I choose?
QuickBooks recommends dd/mm/yyyy. Whichever you pick, choose the same one when QuickBooks asks for the date format during the upload.
Should I use 3 columns or 4?
Either works. With 3 columns, money in and money out share one Amount column and money out is negative. With 4, they go in separate Credit and Debit columns. QuickBooks notes that credit card CSVs can show amounts the other way round, so check the preview for a card account.
Does this work with QuickBooks Desktop?
The file is made for Upload from file in QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Desktop imports bank transactions as Web Connect (.QBO) files, which this tool does not produce.
What if I only have PDF statements?
Use the statement converter on the home page. It reads a PDF bank statement, checks the transactions add up to the closing balance, and exports CSV or OFX ready for QuickBooks or Xero.
