Convert a bank CSV to OFX
OFX is a bank file format that accounting software imports without asking you to match up columns. Drop in your bank’s CSV export and download an OFX file. It’s free, you don’t need an account, and the file never leaves your browser.

Why OFX instead of CSV
A CSV is just rows of text, so every import has to ask which column is the date, which is the amount, and which way round the dates are written. OFX carries each transaction’s date, amount and description in a fixed structure, so there is nothing to match up.
Xero recommends OFX for manual imports, and QuickBooks Online’s Upload from file accepts .ofx files. Plenty of other accounting software reads it too.
What this tool does
It reads the CSV, finds the table even when there are account details above it, and works out which columns hold the date, the description and the amounts. You check the result against a preview, choose the account type and currency, and download the OFX file.
Each transaction gets an ID made from its own date, amount and description. If you later convert an export that overlaps this one, the same transactions get the same IDs, so software that checks those IDs can spot them as duplicates.
Only have PDF statements?
The statement converter reads the PDF, checks every transaction against the closing balance, and exports CSV or OFX for QuickBooks and Xero.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes, with no account and no limit. The conversion runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to run, and there is nothing to meter.
Is my bank file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by this page in your browser tab and the new file is created there too. Nothing from it is sent to us or to anyone else.
What is the difference between OFX, QFX and QBO?
QFX and QBO are Intuit’s own variants of OFX, for Quicken and QuickBooks Desktop. This tool writes plain OFX, for software that imports OFX files, such as Xero and QuickBooks Online.
What should I put as the account number?
It is optional. Some software uses it to tell your accounts apart, so the last four digits of the account are enough. Leave it blank and the file uses a placeholder.
My file came out with purchases as money in. What happened?
Some banks, mostly for credit cards, show money out as positive numbers. Tick “Money out is shown as positive” before downloading and check the preview: money out should be negative.
What if I only have PDF statements?
Use the statement converter on the home page. It reads a PDF bank statement, checks the transactions add up to the closing balance, and exports CSV or OFX ready for QuickBooks or Xero.
