How to download bank statements from Chase (PDF and CSV)
· 4 min read
Chase gives you two ways to get your banking records: monthly statement PDFs and transaction downloads (CSV or spreadsheet). PDFs are the official legal records and keep up to seven years of history; CSV downloads give you editable rows but only cover recent activity. Here is how to download both from Chase online banking, and how to get your statements into Excel if you only have PDFs.
How to download Chase statement PDFs
To download official monthly statement PDFs for a Chase checking, savings, or credit card account:
- Sign in to your account at chase.com.
- Select the checking, savings, or card account you want statements for.
- Click Statements & documents (or choose Statements from the account menu).
- Choose the statement year from the dropdown list.
- Click the statement date you need. The PDF will open or download to your computer.
Chase keeps statement PDFs online for up to seven years. Each PDF includes the statement period, starting balance, total deposits, total withdrawals, ending balance, and the full itemized list of cleared transactions.
How to download Chase transactions as a CSV or spreadsheet
If you need editable transaction rows for recent activity without converting a PDF:
- Go to your account's Activity tab.
- Click the download icon (an arrow pointing down into a tray) located above the transaction list on the right.
- Select your account and choose a date range (such as Year to date, a specific month, or a custom date range).
- Under File type, select Spreadsheet (Excel, CSV). Chase also offers QBO (for QuickBooks), OFX, and QFX (for Quicken).
- Click Download.
PDF vs CSV: what's the difference?
| Feature | Monthly Statement (PDF) | Activity Download (CSV) |
|---|---|---|
| History available | Up to 7 years | Typically 18 to 24 months |
| Balances included | Opening and closing balances included | Running balance per line only, no statement reconciliation summary |
| Edits possible | Fixed document | Editable spreadsheet |
| Legal & tax record | Official bank statement accepted by lenders and IRS | Informational transaction export |
What if you only have PDF statements?
If you need to catch up prior-year taxes, prepare books for an accountant, or reconcile several months of statements, Chase's CSV export may not reach far enough back. Copying and pasting from Chase PDFs into Excel usually results in misaligned columns, scrambled dates, and broken amounts.
You can convert any Chase checking, savings, or credit card PDF into a clean Excel or CSV spreadsheet with the Chase statement converter. It reads Chase's layout directly in your browser, balances opening and closing totals, and keeps your financial records private.
